The Collection consists of costumes from the regions of Međimurje, Hrvatsko Zagorje, Podravina, Bilogora, Pokuplje, Zagreb, Samobor and Jaskansko prigorje and Žumberak. The Collection contains about 5,700 objects. The primary criterion for collecting was aesthetics, so the Collection consists mainly of ceremonial versions of costumes. Given that women's costumes have richer and more diverse ornaments, they predominate over men's and children's costumes. Besides costume sets, the Collection also contains individual items - wedding wreaths and bouquets, caps, scarves, aprons, vests, fur coats, opanci, shoes, boots, etc. Most of them date from the second half of the 19th or the first decades of the 20th century, and the oldest ones from the 18th century. Since the 1990s, efforts have been made to replenish the Collection with more recent items, as it is indispensable in researching the development and changes in the clothing of the rural population, and thus the broader context of new social, political and cultural circumstances of the community. The objects from the Collection are also a very valuable source for numerous enthusiasts interested in this segment of traditional culture, helping them in the reconstruction and restoration of native costumes.
